Mike McPhee was born and raised in the Catlins where his family is among the early European settlers.  He always had a strong interest in local history.  Publishing a book "Catlins Bound" featuring the sailing ships built by his great-grandfather at Stewart Island and in the Catlins.

In 2018 with his wife Anabel they pubilshed a book on the 420 Catlins men who served during WW1.  Mike is curently manager of the Owaka Museum.
