Experience the excitement of the Otago gold rush with the Gabriel’s Gully Storymapp.
Storymapp helps visitors explore Lawrence’s most exciting gold rush locations with its beautiful hand-illustrated souvenir map and intuitive smartphone guide. With 360° artist recreations, people can stand at a heritage site and witness what it looked like during the gold rush. Self-guided audio tours, articles, and historical photographs enrich the visitor’s experience. These resources provide a comprehensive perspective on life on the goldfields and insight into the fascinating lives of early residents.
Visitors begin their adventure at the Tuapeka Goldfields Museum, where they can purchase Storymapp and start exploring the rich history of the goldfields.
“People often express their desire to see historical sites like Gabriel’s Gully and the Lawrence Chinese Camp at the height of the gold rush. With Storymapp, now they can.” says Jess Weichler, manager of the Tuapeka Goldfields Museum.
Storymapp is the first phase in the multi-year Gabriel’s Gully Destination Visitor Experience project, a multi-phase concept plan to develop Gabriel’s Gully and Lawrence township as a destination experience. Storymapp was designed by Wellington-based Locales with funding from Clutha Development and the Lawrence Tuapeka Community Board.
‘Storymapp is designed to inspire travellers to extend their stay in Lawrence and explore our rich heritage in a new and innovative way,” says Weichler.
With its breathtaking scenery, rich heritage, and unmatched hospitality, Lawrence is an ideal destination. The recent expansion of the Clutha Gold Cycle Trail, as well as the Storymapp, provide plenty more reasons to stay awhile and enjoy the beauty of Lawrence.
